In 1970
Oushi Sandlin established his theory of Martial Arts training. It became known
as Sandlin-Ryu. After returning from his United States Marine Corps. Tour of
Duty in the early 1970's he resumed teaching Sandlin Ryu in the Danville and
Tilton Illinois area where he still lives and teaches today. The title
Chichi-Soke represents that he is the Father of our families philosophy of
Martial Arts and the founder of our family Ryu or System of the Martial
Arts. Soke Sandlin was known as the Iron Bull since the 1960's and took the name
of Oushi in the 1980's which means "Bull". He was given the nickname
Iron Bull in his youth due to his fierce competitiveness and his
"Bull" like nature and strength.
Soke
Sandlin began his Martial Arts career at the age of four. He was introduced by
his Grandmother to the art of Judo at the local YMCA at a very young age.
After years of Judo he moved on to study from the Wongso Family of
Martial Arts where he studied Ketsugo Jiu Jitsu and other systems of Jiu Jitsu.
In addition Soke Sandlin studied other styles of the Martial Arts during
his time in the United States Military overseas in Okinawa and here stateside
in California and Arizona.
Soke
Sandlin is the founder of Sandlin Ryu Martial Arts, Sandlin Ryu Christian
Martial Arts and the former Iron Bull Fighting Society in the 1970's. He has
served in the United States Marine Corps and has been a martial Arts Instructor
in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army as well as U.S. Marine Corps. Soke Sandlin has
served as security and as a bouncer on numerous occasions, also he has trained
many local groups in Self Defense such as Church Groups, Recreation Groups and
Neighborhood Crime Watch Units.
As a competitor Soke Sandlin was a fierce full contact fighter who won numerous tournaments in his career and has qualified for the U.S. Martial Arts Team as a competitor and coach. He has fielded a competitive Martial Arts team almost every year since he began teaching his founded system. In the early 1980's he did work as a stuntman and fight coordinator on television programs and full length feature films such as The A-Team, Knight Rider, Metalstorm and many more.
Stuntman: Television and Movie work
In the early 1980's Oushi Sandlin
worked in Hollywood, California as a stuntman. He worked on a handful of
television shows and full-length movies. He had small parts and did a lot of
stunt work and fight choreographing.
