About the Founder
The United States Jiu Jitsu Alliance was founded in 2002 by Shihan, Jay Sandlin. Mr. Sandlin holds numerous black belt ranks. Most notably a 6th degree black belt in Sandlin-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu. Sandlin-Ryu is his families philosophy on Jiu-Jitsu, which they have been teaching since 1970. Mr. Sandlin is an accomplished Martial-Artist who grew up exposed to the martial-arts community. He started his training at the age of 3 years and has more then 28 years of training and developing his skills. He has cross trained with many different practitioners throughout his career. Including, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Aikido, Cardio, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Kickboxing, No Holds Barred, Shoot fighting, Submission, and many different systems of Jiu-Jitsu, also several different hard and soft styles of Karate. He has added many elements of the different arts he has been exposed to, and now incorporates them into his teaching, while staying true to his Jiu-Jitsu foundation.
In 2002 Shihan Sandlin decided it was time to develop his own organization that would be open to the public, not just his personal students. Thus the United States Jiu Jitsu Alliance was born. The alliance was developed to grow by adding as many members as possible and help to create a jiu jitsu community within the martial arts world. All membership fees are below the average cost of some of the bigger organizations. The low cost is to offer more people the chance to join the alliance. Shihan, Sandlin came from a lower class family in Illinois and worked his way up to a manager in a fortune 1000 company in Ohio. He understands the importance of offering affordable membership packages to the general public.
Shihan, Sandlin wishes everyone the best of luck and continued study in the art of jiu-jitsu.
